Work from Home

While the construction industry continues to operate throughout the global pandemic, and field workers remain essential workers - the pandemic has taken its toll on many office and support staff as those jobs transitioned to a remote working arrangement– and often with little more than their laptop.  2020 was a time of crisis, and businesses reacted.

This transformation changed more than just where your employees were working.  Your workplace became their home.  And with that, your liability.  From being down the hall, they are now out of sight. Their technology changed from office networks to home Wi-Fi.  Their ergonomic workstation may now be a kitchen table.  Their secure and confidential filing system may now be folders in a spare room.   Caring for dependents may be during working hours.

As remote work continues, and in some cases – gains momentum as jobs permanently move to remote arrangements, have you considered how this impacts your business, productivity, liability and the health and safety of these workers?  What safeguards have you established?

Perhaps it is time to revisit your original work from home arrangements and implement some sound and practical procedures to protect you, your data, and your employee’s health and safety.
